TITLE: Veterinary Technician
LOCATION: Toronto
The TCP is an innovative, scientific collaboration between four research hospitals to operate a centralized, state-of-the-art research-enabling centre. Pooling scientific resources, TCP aims to be a hub of tools, technologies and services making it a ‘one-stop-shop’ for studying mouse models of human disease. TCP will enable knowledge translation for the scientific community of its four Member Hospitals as well as advance the commercialization agenda for our strategic partners.
As the largest centre of its kind in Canada, TCP will be a resource locally, nationally and internationally for its expertise in generation, breeding & maintenance, phenotypic analysis, pathology and cryopreservation of mice. Located in Toronto’s Discovery District, TCP will occupy 110,000 gross sq ft of custom designed laboratory space and will be operational in spring 2007.
ROLE:
TCP has an immediate opening for a Veterinary Technician as a one-year maternity leave replacement. As a member of the Facility Operations Team, the incumbent provides specialized technical and clinical services to a variety of health research investigators. Responsibilities include training research personnel; assistance with the facility health surveillance program; looking after the health and welfare of the mice under their care and upholding the TCP mission to provide a ‘one-stop-shop’ for studying mouse models of human disease. The work is conducted in a highly regulated environment according to Standard Operating Procedures and reporting relationship is with the Supervisor, Technical Services.
REQUIREMENTS:
The successful candidate must be a graduate of a Veterinary Technician Diploma program with 3-5 years experience in a research setting and be certified as a Registered Laboratory Animal Technician (CALAS). Must have strong technical skills and be able to work in a team environment with demonstrated communication skills (both written & verbal) and have excellent interpersonal skills. Must posses an excellent work ethic, maintain a professional attitude and maintain high standards to detail.
