TBI CEO committee provides value to stakeholders in Ontario
The Biotechnology Initiative has several standing committees that provide value to its stakeholders and assist in TBI’s overall objective of representing and promoting life sciences technologies and commercial success in Ontario. Through government advocacy, stakeholder engagement, mentoring and education and promotion of Ontario’s world-class science and industry, TBI strives to be the voice of Ontario biotech. This is accomplished by taking an active role when it comes to discussions with government agencies in determining the direction of and the establishment of policies that will help the industry as a whole.

Hope for Life Science Companies in times of Economic Uncertainty
Toronto, ON, March 27, 2009. The Biotechnology Initiative (TBI) would like to credit Premier Dalton McGunity and Minister of Research and Innovation John Wilkinson for their quick response to the looming economic uncertainty by the creation of the Emerging Technologies Fund. Ontario is the fourth largest life science cluster in North America and the current economic crisis poses a challenge for emerging companies in raising venture capital due to tightening credit markets. Companies will be forced to move, be sold or shut down if there is no funding available.

Launch of mentorship program the highlight of March TBI breakfast
For the last few months The Biotechnology Initiative (TBI) has been hinting to its members about the launch of a new program. After months of keeping the idea under wraps, TBI membership committee board members Dr. Adi Treasurywala and Gail Garland officially let the cat out of the bag announcing the creation of the TBI mentorship program at the March TBI breakfast meeting.

On Feb. 24, 2009, TBI held its Annual President's Awards Gala. This year's sold out event took place once again at the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto, with the who’s who of the industry, dignitaries, TBI members and esteemed guests gathered to celebrate and honour four special people and one company.
