Praise for TBI’s ‘Mix and Match’

The Biotechnology Initiative’s first ‘Mix and Match’ event was held on September 17th, 2008 in Mississauga at the Astra Zeneca Galleria, an architecturally award-winning venue. The ‘Mix and Match’ event lived up to its name by bringing together a variety of professionals from the broad life sciences industry. Insurance brokers, bankers, consultants, academics, biotech and pharmaceutical professionals had the opportunity to network and share their vision for future developments in the industry.

The first hour of the evening allowed for registration, introductions and hors d’oeuvres. Next, the 200 plus-strong crowd was guided through the program for the evening by Gail Garland who introduced distinguished speakers from industry and government including, Dr. Catriona McMahon, VP Medical Affairs, Astra Zeneca, Grant Tipler, President, TBI and Head, Life Sciences and Health Services, RBC and Bob Delaney, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Research and Innovation. Mississauga Mayor, Hazel McCallion was unable to attend the event, sending Larry Petovello, Director Economic Development, City of Mississauga in her place. Each of the speakers commended the inauguration of the cross-functional networking event and reinforced the continuing need for collaboration between diverse professions within the life science industry. The evening was then left open for the participants to network and discuss their progress within their area of expertise.

All in all, the Mix and Match was a great opportunity for any member of this industry to meet people involved with the latest developments and future progress within biotechnology. A word of advice: sign up early as registration is limited, evident by this year’s long waiting list.
