TBI Breakfast
This month’s TBI breakfast meeting marked yet another informative session.
Ontario Institute for Cancer Research president and scientific director Dr. Thomas Hudson delighted the audience with a detailed synopsis of what the OICR was about and how through its mandate, it is helping “meet the cancer challenge.”
As part of his presentation, Hudson unveiled OICR’s activities in areas of cancer research such as prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment. In terms of early detection, Hudson explained the importance of understanding the genomics of the disease as well as the institute’s development of improved imaging technologies and tracers. Work accomplished in these areas is directly tied to the institute’s current main project, the “one-millimeter cancer challenge,” which Hudson went into great detail explaining.
Another key area of the OICR according to Hudson is its commercialization program. Working with scientists and other research institutes through its IP Development and Commercialization Program (IPDCP), OICR is providing infrastructure support for commercialization activities.
The institute is making the most of its funding and generating lots of data while bringing together multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional collaborations in Ontario and abroad.

Spread the word! TBI will be hosting a pub night at the Mill Street Brew Pub in the Distillery District Thursday May 8th, 2008. It should be a fun evening and a great networking opportunity.
