Renowned Canadian journalist and author Andrea Mandel-Campbell to speak at TBI’s From Research to Revenue IV

The Biotechnology Initiative (TBI) invites you to join us Wednesday December 3rd for the fourth annual From Research to Revenue event at the Mississauga Living Arts Centre.

Whether your business is therapeutics, medical devices or diagnostics you will find this event thought provoking and informative. Hosted by TBI and sponsored by the city of Toronto and city of Mississauga the event draws on the best and brightest minds in Canadian biotech business, including CEO’s, CFO’s and CSO’s from some of the industries biggest companies.

Headlining the schedule is renowned business journalist and author Andrea Mandel Campbell. During her ten years as a journalist in Latin America, she reported from Cuba, Peru, Chile, Bolivia and Honduras, writing for The Miami Herald, The San Francisco Examiner, The Dallas Morning News, The Christian Science Monitor and The Globe and Mail, among other publications. She has more recently published feature articles in Maclean's magazine and The Walrus. Her new book, Why Mexicans Don't Drink Molson: Rescuing Canadian Companies From the Suds of Global Obscurity, is an examination of why Canadian companies have failed to compete on a world stage and why they must.

At Research to Revenue she will be discussing the themes from her new book and how it applies for the need for Canadian biotech companies to think globally rather than sitting back and being cautious. She hopes to encourage Canadian biotech companies to use their strengths in terms of innovation and multiculturalism, while essentially applying the lessons articulated in her book to the biotech sector as a whole.

As she puts it, China has 2 trillion dollars foreign exchange reserve that’s a lot of money out there in the world. It’s a matter of being able to tap into it. She adds that you can never just think of the country of origin where you operate, and you shouldn’t limit yourself to where you access your capital either. She also thinks more emphasis needs to be put on the business side of things, on the actual selling of a product, whether it’s in its infancy as an idea, as a concept, or further down the line.

“I think where more emphasis is probably needed is on the salesmanship, on the actual business management of companies on the marketing of themselves, of their product, of their companies. While that may seem like window dressing it’s actually critically important,” she adds.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to hear from experts and participate in our panel discussions. Topics will address key industry issues such as finance, product development, and commercialization, including an analysis of Asian markets, how international commercial collaborations can lead to success and an in-depth look at current regulations and the effect they have on the industry.

Plan now to join us for this key Life Sciences Executive Forum, don’t miss out!
